I wrote in from some other sources and have it posted on the Packet8 forum. It’s pretty much everything you want to know. Maybe if the mods think it’s useful, they will make it a sticky. Anyway, here you go. These instructions were compiled from many different sources. No matter how accurate or precise these instructions are, no one but you is responsible for the outcome of following these procedures. Good or bad, accurate or not, I nor your voip provider, your ISP, the telephone company, or anyone else will be held liable. Safety of the lines will be repeated numerous times. One way to use voip on multiple phones is to modify the existing telephone wiring in your home to distribute the voip service to all of your phone jacks. Then you can plug a regular telephone into any jack and make a call.
Getting Rid of Your Landline: When to Cut the Cord
Surprisingly during my research for this project, I had a difficult time finding a clear outline of what exactly was needed to set up this system. It turned out that I needed much less than most guides lead me to believe. Of course this depends on your requirements but in my scenario I wanted a strictly voip system with SIP phones and would not tie at all into an analog provider or telephone line.
That greatly reduces the complexity of the system and lowers the requirements. What you need Broadband internet connection. The more call volume you have the higher the bandwidth you will need.
The Cisco SPA 2-Port Adapter offers the benefits of high-quality voice over IP (VoIP) without the need to upgrade your existing analog phones. Easy to install and use, the SPA works over an IP network to connect analog phones and fax machines to a VoIP service provider.
So I recently applied for NBN, they still havent installed it yet. Im not sure where they will install the actual box, and my parents really dont like having holes drilled anywhere, so my question is, is it possible to have the VOIP phone go through the normal phone sockets that we are currently using? But let me clarify a few things. For the NBN purists I am going to use simple langauge so forgive me. Now if you have it delivered on the analogue port then you not NBN then somehow have to get from the NBN box to where ever you want the phone located.
This means getting in a cable guy, at your expense or you use a cordless system DECT with your cordless base station located next to the NBN box for easy connection. Again this could be wireless wifi in particular or you could go the wired path and get some points wired. As for where they will located the inside equipment ultimately that is up to you as the customer, but one thing is for sure they won’t be using your existing telephone line.
The good news is when they install NBN they won’t cut off your phone line. Now NBN have made some nice webpages and user guides that I would suggest you go and read:
Voice: Home Phone Service
Voice over IP VoIP service providers can offer residential and business users traditional and enhanced communication services via the customer’s broadband connection to the Internet. The Cisco SPA features two basic telephone ports to connect existing analog phones or fax machines to a private branch exchange PBX system. Each phone line can be configured independently via software controlled by the service provider or the end user.
Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone service can prove to be a cost-effective investment over traditional telephone services, which is why some businesses are configuring their phones to use VoIP.
At a minimum, that requires a physical connection to the phone line. A consumer-grade modem provides an interface for the computer attached to the modem to take the line off-hook and dial a number. The standard modem interface doesn’t give the computer any access to actually send or receive audio over the phone line. So, if your PC had a modem, you could plug the line into the modem and use it to dial the phone, but you’d need a separate phone handset connected to the line in order to talk or listen.
Some computers have what are dubbed “winmodems”. The modem hardware is simpler and usually consists of a signal processor which gives direct ability to generate or process an audio signal on the line. An OS-specific software driver provides the normal modem interface. If your computer had one of these winmodems, and you plugged the phone line into it, then you could hypothetically have software which could dial the line and send and receive audio. I’m not aware of any hardware standards for this sort of thing, so you’d be dependent on your PC vendor to provide phone software which worked for your PC’s winmodem.
So your PC doesn’t even have access to the physical phone line; the router does. For this to work, the router would have to contain hardware for accessing the POTS service, including sending and receiving audio. And it would somehow have to expose that interface over the network. And you’d need software on your PC to access the service on the router.
You would have to check your specific router to see if the manufacturer has provided these features.

The number is dropping with increasing speed, and there are plenty of reasons why. For most households, a cell phone is more useful — and why should you pay two different telephone bills? For others, there are still telephones other than cell phones in the house, but they use VoIP, rather than a line connected by the telephone company. Either way, getting rid of the landline comes down to cost. Considering that emergency services are one of the stickiest points when it comes to alternatives to the traditional landline, you may also want to wait until technology catches up.
Most VoIP providers are working to add emergency call routing, however, so this problem may become a non-issue in the future. Power outages can prove an additional issue, at least for VoIP phones. Cell phones, of course, will still run, provided the battery has been charged. At that time, I was receiving and sending quite a few faxes and it was convenient to keep the line for that purpose. You may have to make some significant changes to other plans, as well: Do you still own a landline?

History[ edit ] The first system was installed in Haleyville, Alabama , in February , as a way to quickly connect a subscriber to the local police station. The system was rapidly adapted and improved by other telephone companies, evolving into the E system, which provides both caller location and identification. A pioneering system was in place in Chicago by the mid s, providing both police and fire departments access to the source location of emergency calls. Enhanced is currently deployed in most metropolitan areas in the United States , Canada , and Mexico as well as all of the Cayman Islands.
In the US, the Wireless Communications and Public Safety Act of , also known as the Act, mandated the use of E and designated as the universal emergency number, including both wireline and wireless phone devices. Location[ edit ] Location is an important concept in the manner of how the Enhanced system works. The ALI record associated with the query is then returned to the PSAP where the Customer-premises equipment CPE correlates that information with the call taker receiving the call and displays the information on their computer screen.

Packed with extensive features to help agents, our VoIP web dialer solutions allow real-time monitoring to let you take full control of your business. Besides cutting on the calling cost, the solutions also reduce the time agents spend on connecting with live prospects. A VoIP dialer uses your existing internet hookup to make calls, saving you money and making VoIP CRM integration, cloud center calling and seamless online management and supervision of your telemarketing operation possible. Wherever your agents can access a computer and use the internet, they can log into your VoIP calling software set up and start working.
At the same time, your supervisor is able to monitor and connect to all calls from an independent location. Our VoIP web dialer solutions offer a cost-effective way for businesses to extend their market reach, without going overboard with calling costs. Here are a few more reasons why businesses need to deploy a VoIP dialer for call center: Simple integration with existing CRM Unlimited calls within a geographic area Make calls or send message or do both simultaneously Easy accessibility of accounts from anywhere in the world Why is a VoIP dialer better than alternative call center solutions?
Quite simply, because there are no real alternative call center solutions. Maintaining a physical call center with traditional telephones is dramatically more expensive and less efficient than using a cloud-based call center with VoIP dialer software. It would be like outfitting all of your offices with manual typewriters instead of computers. Any business that makes use of telemarketing services, that moves product through volume sales techniques or that simply needs to make or receive many calls a day can benefit dramatically from VoIP calling software.
From healthcare organizations that need to quickly make contact with patients, doctors and insurers, to companies selling a specific product that they need to get the word out about to as many people as possible, to financial services companies that need to close investor leads to flourish, VoIP calling software services can help businesses do it faster and better.
All of our features are designed with users in mind to provide as much value as possible towards reaching your end goals.

No smoke and mirrors – it’s not magic! I tried the other, and after a month of back and forth exchange and hours on customer service I said enough is enough and went to BasicTalk. The results were fantastic and seamless. Easy set- up and clear voice transmission and I had my land-line ready to go.
Voice over Internet Protocol is a lot easier to use than your standard phone line hookup. Instead of connecting it to your local phone system, all that you need to is to connect it to your broadband network.
How Do I Hook Up Also known as a TA, a telephone adapter acts to convert the traditional analog voice signal your voice digital signal over the internet. Eventually, it pops up at a gateway that is connected to the traditional PSTN network. The signal is then converted back to analog by the gateway so it can traverse the copper wires and end up coming out someone’s analog phone.
This chain of events happens in reverse for audio coming from an analog source to a digital phone service. In short, you end up sending a digital signal out when you make a call over the internet that will eventually be converted to analog. On the flip side, if you receive a digital voice signal over the internet, it will be converted back to analog by your TA so that you hear a voice when you pick up your phone.
Regardless of how VoIP works, you just need to be able to make it work for you, right? So let’s get everything connected. Hooking up Vonage I’m intimately familiar with Vonage service. Naturally, that’s what I’m going to help you hook up. Other voice services are very similar. Depending on which terminal adapter you receive from Vonage, it may be a standalone unit that only serves the purpose of converting your voice signal between digital and analog, or it could be a multi-purpose unit that may also be a broadband router.
By standalone, I mean you would plug it into your cable or DSL modem or into a router.

Overview: The Cisco SPAG 5-line IP Phone with Color Display is a full-featured VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone that provide voice communication over an IP network. It provides traditional features, such as call forwarding, redialing, speed dialing, transferring calls, conference calling, and accessing voice mail.
This can save major costs. Regular home phone lines have risen in costs in the last few years. If that is not enough, phone companies are starting to tag on costs like minimum long distance use and associated charges. The rise in costs for a home phone line look set to continue. Keeping a regular home phone line just for the sake of connecting it to a medical alert system is just not very economical, not to mention frustrating. With a cellular based system, there are no more headaches and expensive costs associated with paying for a phone line to access medical monitoring services.
Senior users can continue with whatever phone services they are happy with, such as cell phone lines or connections like Magic Jack, as they have no bearing on the functioning of their medical alert system. Without the need for a phone connection, the medical alert system is even easier to set-up. There is no need to hook up a phone line or bother with other intermediate connections like an answering machine.
There is an excessive amount of traffic coming from your Region.
Forgive the intrusion, if it doesn’t belong here. I just signed up for telephone and internet in LA area. I did not realize that the phone service is VOIP through the internet, and actually is not a land line. E , which eased my concerns for emergency.

Serial Port Whozz Calling? Most likely, professional telephony tools and connecters will be needed for the installation. If you are not exceedingly familiar with your phone system wiring, contact a telephone technician specializing in internal building wiring. Although the unit may have both input and output telephone line ports, it is recommended that the unit be connected in parallel with phone lines. Many other software applications require that the host computer be your network server.
The computer connection uses a straight DB9 M-F serial cable. Phone connections can be accomplished using the appropriate modular adaptors.
